President Obama’s Budget $3.8 Trillion [posted]
The Obama Administration’s proposed $3.8 trillion spending plan for fiscal 2013 is about the same as it was in 2012.
The Associated Press has released a summary of this budget. From the looks of it, there will be substantial cuts in the Department of Education, the Department of Labor, the Department of Transportation, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, and the Department of Justice. There will be a small cut in the Department of Defense.
There will be a major increase only in the Department of Energy.
But the budget is slightly larger than in 2012. Yet the AP article announces huge cuts in several departments. In short, the AP article’s numbers do not add up. The article offers no explanation for this obvious discrepancy: high cuts, few large increases, and no change in the spending. Here is a breakdown by department:
