Montana Insurance Commissioner Monica Lindeen testified before Congress this week, urging lawmakers to pass a bill that would give states needed flexibility to protect small business owners who offer health insurance to their employees.
The Assurant Health Insurance Company has agreed to refund nearly $1.7 million to Montanans to resolve a complaint that the company charged two different prices for the same health insurance policies: a lower price for healthier customers and a higher price for sicker Montanans.
In a conference call today, outgoing Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sibelius announced that eight million Americans, and 36,584 Montanans, had signed up for healthcare in the Affordable Care Act's insurance marketplace.
As of October 1, the federal government-run health insurance exchanges will be open to the public. However, Montana Commissioner of Securities and Insurance Monica Lindeen is advising Montanans to wait a bit before they enroll.
