Gabrielle Giffords' District to Hold Gun Raffle

In an August 26 newsletter, the Pima County Republican Party announced it’s raffling off a handgun to raise money for the group.

The problem? Pima County is within the Arizona congressional district of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, who was nearly killed earlier this year after a shooting at a local meet-and-greet event left six people dead. As a result, many feel raffling off a Glock .45 — the same type of gun used in the attack — is in poor taste.

In a recent story about gun rights, a reporter got a little more than he bargained for.

Arizona Republic reporter Richard Ruelas was recently interviewing state senator Lori Klein, who's unapologetically carried her pink Ruger pistol in the state's capitol building for years -- most controversially in the days directly after US Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was the victim of a mass shooting in Tuscon.

Back to the wild west ways? House Bill 271 has been cleared and is now left to Governor Brian Schweitzer to decide whether it will be signed into law or vetoed. House Bill 271 will allow gun owners to carry a concealed weapon without a permit within city limits. What do you think of this bill? Is it necessary for guns to be concealed within the city?
