UPDATE - As of about 5:40 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon, an unidentified armed intoxicated man surrendered to authorities outside his Canyon Creek area home. 

Paige Pavalone with the Missoula County Sheriff's Office said the man surrendered without incident, and no one was injured. People have been allowed to return to their homes. Pavalone said the man had a history of mental issues.

As of 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, deputies are positioned near a residence near Potter Park Loop and Hermoine Lane in the Canyon Creek residential neighborhood.

Public Information Officer with the Missoula Sheriff's Department, Paige Pavalone said nearby homes have been evacuated for their own safety, and other residents are being asked to stay inside their homes.

Deputies are addressing a situation involving an armed male inside of his home. The subject is believed to be intoxicated and law enforcement officers have yet to make contact with him.

Deputies are addressing this situation with extreme caution. Residents in the neighborhood are urged to stay in their homes until the situation is resolved.

The situation is confined to 4200 Hermione Road. Residents from that location are asked to stay away from their home for the time being. SWAT and EOD (Emergency Ordinance Disposal) have been paged out as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of residents.

Public and media personnel are asked to maintain a safe distance from the incident. More information will be provided as it is received.
