The Washington Post is reporting that Republican U.S. Representative Steve Daines of Montana will indeed run for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Democrat Max Baucus.

The Post story quotes Rob Collins, executive director of the National Republican Central Committee, confirming that Daines will run. Daines has scheduled a "special event" in Bozeman on Wednesday, November 6.

Daines, a freshman member of the U.S. House, has been expected to announce his intention to run for several weeks, and in an interview with KGVO Radio on October 17, said the decision had to be made soon.

"We’re giving the decision thoughtful consideration,” Daines said. “I’m staying very focused on the big to-do list I have back in Washington as a current member of the House. I also recognize that we’ve got to put this to bed. There’s a lot of speculation about the 2014 election and the Senate race, and we’ll sort this thing out in the near future.”

There was no response from Daines' office in Washington, D.C. about the Washington Post article as of Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 5.
