Earlier today Senator Daines responded to the Administration's 2016 Budget. Moments ago, Sen. Tester & Congressman Zinke added their thoughts.

Senator Jon Tester:

“A budget is about priorities, and as we look to strengthen middle class families, we must make responsible investments in education and infrastructure while continuing to reduce the deficit.  America can compete in the 21st Century if we build our economy from the middle out, not the top down – and not on the backs of rural Americans.”

Congressman Ryan Zinke’s Reaction:

“The President’s proposal is not a budget; it’s the Christmas list of special interests, paid for on the backs of hard-working Montanans.  The President’s proposal would increase taxes by $2.1 trillion, add $2.4 trillion in new government spending, add $8.5 trillion to the almost $18 trillion national debt, and never even come close to balancing the budget. I support a Balanced Budget Amendment. Montana is constitutionally obligated to balance our budget; Washington should have to as well.

“The President’s plan would hike the Death Tax to 60 percent. This would devastate the ability for Montana’s thousands of family farmers to pass their ranch or farm down to their kids and grandkids. Taxing the farmers and ranchers of tomorrow is no way to pay for the government spending of today.

“The federal government is an anchor weighing down Montana’s potential: stonewalling the Keystone XL, burdening small businesses with more than $10,000 in extra costs per employee, and taxing our farmers and ranchers into oblivion. Now is the time for Congress to focus on creating a real equal opportunity economy with fewer regulations on family farms and small businesses and more good-paying jobs that allow families to save for their first home, college or retirement and leave a better future for their children.”
