In a speech on the Senate Floor, Walsh criticized the House of Representatives for authorizing the sale of public lands—including lands in Montana. The senator said radical theories like selling public lands hurt hunting and fishing access for all Montanans.

“Our colleagues in the House of Representatives have passed a budget that could sell off millions of access of acres of public land in Montana.  I want you to know, Mr. President, that I will fight any similar attempts in this chamber.  I want my granddaughter Kennedy to grow up in Montana with the same easy access to streams and forests that I enjoyed, whether she wants to hunt, hike, fish, or bike.”

Senator Walsh, a lifelong angler, is sponsoring the Rocky Mountain Front Heritage Act.The Rocky Mountain Front Heritage Act was built by local residents of north central Montana through a collaborative process.
