Lack of action on gun control legislation in the Senate has caused a U.S. senator from Connecticut, Chris Murphy, to say he would remain on the Senate floor "until we get some signal, some sign that we can come together," and evoked the Newtown school shooting in his state in 2012.

Sen. Chris Murphy's surprise filibuster has just past the 12-hour mark and shows no sign of stopping.

The senator's filibuster continues as of this posting.
