Ravalli County Search and Rescue and several other agencies are searching for a missing skier near Lost Trail Ski Resort.

Sheriff Chris Hoffman said the search began early Wednesday morning when the 65 year-old Corvallis area skier did not return from his run late Tuesday.

"Lost Trail Ski Patrol began the search for this individual and then contacted Ravalli County 9-1-1 and Search and  Rescue that they had been unable to locate this individual," Hoffman said. "Elements of Search and rescue were on the ski hill early Wednesday searching for this man and were also unable to locate him."

Hoffman said other agencies were also called in to assist in the search for the unidentified 65 year-old man.

"We called in Two-Bear Air out of Whitefish, along with Choice Aviation out of Hamilton," he said. "They continued the search through the afternoon and early evening before darkness and weather caused the search to be suspended."

Hoffman said the search will resume Thursday morning at first light. Hoffman said the missing man is an experienced skier, who did not often ski out of bounds.

"However, Hoffman added, "he wasn't prepared to spend a night out on the mountain."
