News reports have been reporting that Montana Representative Ryan Zinke has been offered the position of Secretary of the Interior in President-Elect Donald Trump's cabinet.

Zinke, a 51 year old Montana native, is a former Navy Seal and was the Commander of Seal Team Six. Zinke was awarded two Bronze Stars for meritorious service in a combat zone, four Meritorious Service Medals, two Joint Service Commendation Medals, two Defense Meritorious Service Medals, and an Army Commendation Medal.

He was elected to the Montana Senate and held that position from 2009-11. He ran on the Montana Gubernatorial ticket with Neil Livingstone in 2012. Livingstone/Zinke finished fifth out of seven tickets in the Republican Primary.

During the Republican Nominating Convention in July 2016 Zinke withdrew as a delegate over his stand that government public lands should be better managed not transferred to state control.

Zinke won the House Seat in 2014 defeating Libertarian Mike Fellows and Democrat John Lewis, with 55 percent of the vote and won again in 2016 with 56 percent of the vote defeating Democratic Superintendent of Public Instruction Denise Juneau.
