Koopman, is running for the Republican nomination to challenge Public Service Commissioner John Vincent, D-Gallatin Gateway, in District 3. The district covers 14 counties in southwest and south-central Montana and includes the cities of Bozeman, Butte, Anaconda, Livingston, Townsend, Dillon and Roundup.

The five-member PSC regulates electric, gas, telephone and water utilities in Montana.

Koopman’s entry into the District 3 race creates a four-way Republican primary on June 5. The other Republicans are Dillon lawyer James Brown, state Rep. Michael More of Gallatin Gateway, and Edward McCrone of Absarokee.
