New Marijuana Laws

New terms and regulations are being put into effect regarding the sale of Marijuana in Montana. If passed, the Senate Bill 154 will require growers to be licensed and allow inspections of their facilities. A separate bill, House Bill 68, will require the licensing fee the growers pay to cover the cost of regulating such growers. Also 10 percent of the sales will be taxed helping out our Montanan economy. What do you think are we moving too fast with this?

HELENA- Montana lawmakers are considering bills to regulate the growth and sale of medical marijuana.

Republican Sen. Dave Lewis of Helena has introduced Senate Bill 154, which would have the Department of Revenue regulate medical marijuana. Lee Newspapers of Montana reports Lewis' bill would require growers to be licensed, file quarterly reports, submit to inspections and pay a 10 percent tax on the sale of marijuana.

A separate bill, House Bill 68, would require a licensing fee to pay for the cost of regulation by the Department of Revenue.

The bill is sponsored by Rep. Diane Sands of Missoula on behalf of the Legislature's Children, Families, Health and Human Services interim committee. It also requires a person with severe chronic pain to receive recommendations from two doctors before receiving a medical marijuana card.
