A shopping cart loaded with merchandise has helped place one Missoula woman in jail after she attempted to walk out of a local store around 3:30 a.m. this morning, July 20.

"An officer with Missoula Police Department responded to a local store at the intersection of Reserve and Mullan, where a woman had been detained after loss prevention employees there observed her filling up two carts with clothing merchandise and then attempt to leave without paying for the items," said Missoula Police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh.

According to Welsh, there were a lot of clothes in the carts.

"She is identified as 30-year-old Jami Stephens, because there was $1,800 worth of merchandise in the cart, she is being held on a charge of felony theft."

The minimum requirement for a felony theft charge is $1,500.
