39 year-old Jennifer Smith appeared in Missoula Justice Court on Monday on felony charges of assault with a weapon after allegedly threatening another woman with a two-foot rod with concealed blades.

Court documents state that Smith entered a residence on Fred Lane on February 25 and ordered a female resident to leave, or she said 'I will shoot you'. The victim stated that she feared for her life as Smith was pointing the blade at her. When sheriff's deputies arrived at the residence, Smith handed the weapon over to them. She was taken into custody and charged with assault with a weapon, and held on $50,000 bond.

At her Justice Court appearance on Monday, Deputy Missoula County Attorney Amber Henning told Judge Marie Anderson that the State would not oppose what is called an 'ROR' release, or released on her own recognizance.

"The defendant is charged with assault with a weapon after threatening her husband's mistress with a knife-like blade just inches from her face," Henning said. "Your honor, in this case we're fine with an ROR release. "The release would be with standard conditions, including no weapons and absolutely no contact with the victim, and no discussing the case with her husband, Chris Smith."

Smith's next court appearance will be March 13.
