At about 1:30 on Tuesday morning, a Missoula woman walked into the emergency room at St. Patrick Hospital with a gunshot wound to the face.

Detective Sergeant Travis Welsh said Tuesday afternoon that a police officer was already at the hospital responding to another case.

“Based on the woman’s story, police made an immediate response to her residence where an adult male was seen inside,” Welsh said. “Not knowing what that individual’s intentions might be, we elected to make contact via telephone. The male answered and agreed to come outside to speak to us,” he said.

The man exited the house and police apprehended him.

“At that point, he was escorted t the police department and was subsequently interviewed by detectives,” Welsh continued. “He was arrested for the offense of attempted deliberate homicide,” he said.

The suspect, Mark Byron Tabish, 55, was booked into the Missoula County Jail without bail.

Welsh said the victim, 49, was admitted into St. Patrick Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

“The weapon was a small caliber rifle,” Welsh said. “Through a subsequent search of the residence, we have recovered that weapon.” Welsh said.

Officials at Missoula Justice Court confirmed that Tabish will appear via video from the jail Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. No bail amount has yet been set.
