Michigan Man Linked to Nazi Police Dies at 93

DETROIT (AP) — A man under a deportation order for serving in a Nazi-controlled police force during World War II has died in Michigan at age 93.

John Kalymon died at his suburban Detroit home on June 29. His son, Alex Kalymon, says he had pneumonia, prostate cancer and dementia.

The U.S. government wanted to deport Kalymon but no country would take him. There is no dispute that he served in the Nazi-sponsored Ukrainian Auxiliary Police in Lviv, which once was part of Poland.

But Kalymon repeatedly denied allegations that he shot at Jews. He said he did nothing more than light guard duty.

In Munich, Germany, prosecutors issued an arrest warrant this year for Kalymon for war crimes, but the case stalled because of his poor health.
