Michelle Obama and the Vice President's wife Jill Biden's plane flew within three miles of a massive military cargo jet. This is miles closer than previously reported. Federal regulations require at least 5 miles in between planes in flight as planes can create a dangerous wake of turbulence in the air, especially when the plane leading is much bigger than the plane following.

In this case the leading plane was a 200-ton C-17 military cargo plane.

Luckily the controllers in the tower recognized the danger and instructed Obama's plane to circle until it was safe to land.
