A megaload shipment that began its trip through Montana on Sunday night has now passed through the city of Missoula. The shipment is headed up to the Alberta tar sands and has been followed by protestors during most of its journey.

According to local authorities, it passed through Missoula during the early morning hours of August 13.

“Just after one o’clock this morning, the Megaload came into the city limits and, at Reserve and Central, there was a small group of protesters,” said Missoula Police Sgt. Jerry Odlin. “The protestors stepped onto the road and stopped the load for about two minutes. The Highway Patrol officers gave the protestors order to leave the roadway. Approximately two minutes later, the protestors walked off the road having made their point. It was, really, a positive interaction between the protestors and law enforcement. There were no arrests, citations or anything, they were really compliant.”

Odlin says there were about 20 to 25 protestors. The megaload left Missoula at approximately 1:30 a.m..
