Legendary Washington Post Editor, Ben Bradlee Dies At 93
Ben Bradlee, who led the Washington Post during the Watergate scandal, died Tuesday, according to The Washington Post. He was 93.
Bradlee's lengthy career will forever be inextricably linked with President Nixion. In addition to being at the helm of the Post during Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein's coverage of the break-in at the Democratic National Committee headquarters in Washington. He was also there for the Post and The New York Times publishing of articles based upon “the Pentagon Papers.” The Nixon administration took legal action to prevent further stories based on the material, and the case made it to the Supreme Court. The justices backed the newspapers by a 6-3 majority.
In November 2013, Bradlee was awarded the nation’s highest civilian honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, by President Obama.
