Over the past few weeks, the Discovery Ski Area resort near Philipsburg has been making its way into national headlines.

"The first place where we got picked up was the LA times," said Discovery Ski Area President Ciche Pitcher,"It was doing a story on more affordable skiing destinations and they picked up Discovery. They must have had some information on us or had just been doing their research. A couple weeks later, a similar situation, we found out we were included in National Geographic Adventures "Best Secret Ski Towns in North America"

Both the L.A. Times article and National Geographic laud Discovery for its back mountain black diamond runs and the small town feel of nearby Phillipsburg. Pitcher said one of the best elements of Discovery is that it doesn't feel like a tourist trap: it's a ski hill for locals. He also said that, so far, the stories haven't had a big impact on attendance, but that he expects positive long term effects.

Discovery struggled earlier this winter with extremely cold and dry weather, but things have changed: over the first 2014 weekend, Discovery was hit with over seven inches of snow.
