KGVO News helped break the story at 8 a. m. on Monday, April 28, that the legendary artist Sir Paul McCartney would perform a concert at Washington Grizzly Stadium on August 5.

Executive Director of the Adams Center Brad Murphy said that bringing McCartney to Missoula, like the Rolling Stones in 2006, was the result of months of behind-the-scenes work by dozens of people.

“Mike McGinley who is a University of Montana alumnus is one of the leading tour experts in the entertainment industry,” Murphy said. “He was able to make the contacts for us, and through his efforts and the University of Montana administration stepping up. It’s been about a six year process, but we were finally able to get Paul McCartney to come to Missoula.”

Murphy noted three factors that helped lead to the historic booking.

“They are routing, revenue and relationships,” Murphy said. “First, we had to be on the route. We are a little out of the beaten path, but they were able to fit us in. As far as revenue goes, we were able to put a package together that made it economically feasible to put the deal together. Then, it’s about those relationships. Working with those contacts that we have in the industry and then building up a reputation so that when big name acts come to Missoula, they know they’ll be treated like kings and queens.”

Murphy said there will be no back-up band or opening act, just Sir Paul McCartney and his band playing new music from their latest album, “Out There”, as well as music from Paul McCartney and Wings and the Beatles, for two and a half to three hours.

Murphy said ticket prices will vary from $49.50 all the way to $250. Tickets will go on sale on Friday, May 9 at the Adams Center Ticket Office, as well as online at Griztix.com. Or contact the ticket office at 1-888-MONTANA.
