Where has all the commercialism gone? This year, the majority of Americans “don’t care about the presents underneath the Christmas tree,” as Mariah Carey sings. Their favorite aspect of the holiday season is the time they get to spend with loved ones.

Harris Interactive asked 2,499 adults what they most looked forward to about the December holidays and 58 percent responded spending time with friends and family. The next most popular aspects are the parties (8 percent), followed by giving presents (7 percent), putting up decorations (4 percent), watching holiday specials and listening to seasonal music (4 percent), and getting presents (2 percent.)

Eleven percent went the Grinch route and answered that there wasn’t a single thing they looked forward to about the holidays.
