Congressman Greg Gianforte is backing a new measure that will reduce gang violence and crime in the United States. The Criminal Alien Gang Member Removal Act prevents alien gang members from entering the country. It also makes it much faster to deport aliens who are caught breaking the law and now denies gang members immigration from seeking asylum.

“Americans need to be assured their communities are safe. It’s one of the foremost responsibilities of government,” Gianforte said.“Dangerous transnational gangs like MS-13 want to do us harm and threaten our way of life. They jeopardize the safety and security of our communities... They bring with them a scourge of violence, and they make their money in drug and human trafficking.”

The measure passed this morning in the House 233 – 175 and was backed largely by Republican lawmakers and opposed by most Democrats.

According to The Hill Website, Congressional Hispanic Caucus Chairwoman Democrat Michelle Lujan Grisham said:

“The bill broadly overreaches and puts Americans and immigrants at risk of being unjustly profiled.”

The measure now moves to the Senate.
