In nature, many animals have something called feeding frenzy. Small amounts of food suddenly appear before many hungry animals and it’s every beast for him or her self.

Humans have a similar feeding frenzy called Black Friday. Once called the biggest shopping day of the year. Followed by Cyber Monday when shoppers crowd the electronic aisles of the Internet.

This year retailers are not waiting for Cyber Monday. Internet deals will be available online and on store shelves at the same time.

2015 Black Friday Statistics

A whopping 74.2 million shoppers hit stores and online in 2015.

“According to the National Retail Federation’s Holiday Consumer Spending Survey conducted by Prosper Insights and Analytics, consumers celebrating Christmas, Hanukkah and/or Kwanzaa will spend an average of $805.65 on food items, decorations, gifts and more over the holiday season, the highest amount in the survey’s 14-year history and in line with last year’s $802.45. Spending on gifts for family members will total $462.95, up from $458.75 last year and also a survey high.”

NRF also found that if you combine Christmas, Hanukkah, and/or Kwanzaa the average shopper will shell out and average of $805.65 for Christmas dinner, tree and decorations, gifts and other assorted holiday items.

This is the highest amount in NRF’s 14 years of surveying shopping habits. The study also shows that family members will spend a survey high of $462.95 up $3.20 from the previous year.

Some Final Thoughts

Thankfully we can take a break from all the political talk and replace political frenzy with shopping frenzy.

So head out to your local retailer, fight the crowds and bounce around like a pinball in your quest for that perfect gift.

You might just get home in one piece.
