An arrest in Arizona earlier in December has put a former West Yellowstone man behind bars when he was reeled in on a Gallatin County warrant for a charge on assault with a weapon related to a West Yellowstone shooting.

BOZEMAN — A former West Yellowstone man accused of threatening his friend with a shotgun and shooting out his pickup tire is charged with assault with a weapon.

The Bozeman Daily Chronicle reports 34-year-old Travis Wayne Meyer was arrested in Arizona earlier this month on a Gallatin County warrant for a Sept. 4 shooting in a parking area near West Yellowstone.

The victim told investigators that Meyer pointed a shotgun at him, then shot out his pickup tire and threatened to shoot him if he called police.

Meyer was stopped for reckless driving in Idaho about an hour after the shooting. The next day, he told a Gallatin County deputy he lost his cool and the shooting was not an accident. The Bozeman Daily Chronicle reports Idaho police and Gallatin County were unable to hold Meyer at the time because no charges had been filed.
