WEST GLACIER, Mont. (AP) — A 21-year-old Davie, Fla., man who had been working in Glacier National Park has died after falling about 1,000 feet while climbing a mountain.

Park spokeswoman Denise Germann says the man's body was recovered Tuesday evening on Apikuni Mountain in the northeast area of the park. His name hasn't been released.

Officials say four employees of the Many Glacier Hotel left at about 7:45 a.m. Tuesday to go climbing. About 11:15 a.m., a member of the climbing party called park dispatch to report that the man had fallen, they couldn't see him and he wasn't responding to any communication.

Rangers spotted the climber's body at about 6 p.m. A Parks Canada rescuer hanging from a rope on a hovering helicopter assisted in recovering the body.
