The Ravalli County Sheriff’s Office issued a press release on Tuesday afternoon following heavy rains in the area that caused some roads to close due to flood conditions.

Here is the report from Sheriff Steve Holton:

The recent heavy rainfall and continued spring runoff have resulted in high water levels in the Bitterroot River and surrounding streams and ditches in the Bitterroot Valley. Current forecasts indicate that precipitation will continue throughout the day of Tuesday, June 13. The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning at 11:09 am for areas including Ravalli County.

The Sheriff’s Office has received reports of flooding in the areas of Skalkaho Creek, Burnt Fork Creek, and Middle Bear Creek, Kootenai Creek, as well as area fishing accesses and the south portion of Westside Road. At the time of this release, portions of Middle Burnt Fork Road, South Burnt Fork, and Middle Bear Creek road have been closed due to flooding and erosion of the roadways. Significant flooding is possible through the remainder of this week. Additionally, the Bitterroot River is forecast to peak at levels approaching flood stage on Wednesday, June 14.

Sand and sandbags will be available to Ravalli County residents at the following locations:

Victor Fire Station in Victor

Corvallis Fire Station #1 on Woodside Cutoff Rd.

Stevensville Fire Westside Station at the Stevensville Wye behind Subway

Residents are responsible for filling and transportation of the sandbags.

Please keep the following safety messages in mind:

Avoid areas of high water and flooding, including area streams, ditches, and the Bitterroot River.

Ensure the safety of your children and animals by keeping them away from hazardous areas.

Observe any road closures or detours- they are in place for your safety.
