Election Day 2018: What You Need to Know to Vote

Election Day is Tuesday, November 6. Montana is holding elections for one U.S. Senate seat, one U.S. House seat, public service commissioner, two seats on the state supreme court, 25 out of 50 state senate seats, and all 100 state house seats. Four statewide ballot measures will also be on the ballot.

To vote in Montana, you must:

• Be registered as required by law.
• Be 18 years old or older on or before the next election.
• Be a citizen of the United States.
• Have lived in Montana for at least 30 days.

Even if you meet the above eligibility qualifications, you cannot vote if:

• You’re a convicted felon serving a sentence in a penal institution.
• You’ve been judged in a court of law to be of unsound mind.

If you need to register to vote, you can late-register at the Gallatin County election office through close of polls on election day. The office is located at 311 W. Main room 210 on the 2nd floor of the Gallatin County Courthouse.

Most polling locations across Montana open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 8:00 p.m.

Locations having fewer than 400 registered voters are open from at least noon until 8 p.m., or until all registered voters in any precinct have voted, at which time that precinct's polling place has to be closed immediately.

Before you will be permitted to receive a ballot, you will need to present a current ID. If you do not have a photo ID with your name on it, you can provide a current utility bill, bank statement, paycheck, voter confirmation notice, government check or another government document that shows your name and current address.
