In a joint press call on Monday afternoon, Senator Steve Daines and Representative Ryan Zinke announced their endorsement of Greg Gianforte for governor of Montana and rancher and Phillips County Commissioner Lesley Robinson for lieutenant governor.

DAINES:

Having worked closely with Greg Gianforte at RightNow Technologies, I know firsthand his leadership abilities and his skills as a job creator. He will build a great team to lead Montana forward as our governor.  I was very pleased to see his choice of lieutenant governor.  As a rancher and county commissioner Lesley Robinson has fought for the interests of Montanans from Malta, to Helena, to Washington D.C. Greg and Lesley are exactly the kind of commonsense, principled leaders our state needs.

ZINKE:

I am proud to support Greg Gianforte for governor. Having built a successful business in his and his wife's home in Bozeman, Greg has a proven track record of innovation, job creation, and education excellence. The economy of tomorrow is rapidly approaching, and Montana needs a fresh look at the role of government in the economy. Greg has a proven time and time again he knows how to get the job done and build a better Montana. I've also had the pleasure of working with Commissioner Lesley Robinson on a number of agriculture issues like providing more oversight and transparency over the APR's free-range bison plan. She has been a vocal advocate for Montana ag in my office and a trusted sounding board. I have no doubt Lesley will be an even bigger asset to rural Montanans as our next LG.

When asked why now, regarding their endorsements, Daines and Zinke pointed to the recent news concerning Colstrip and the Gateway Pacific Terminal.  Additionally, they highlighted job losses in timber, railroad, and elsewhere in the mining industry.
