UPDATE: Libyan Dictator Muammar Gadhafi Killed by Rebels in Sirte

Former Libyan dictator Muammar Gadhafi, who’s been in hiding since August when a NATO-backed rebel force seized his headquarters in Tripoli, was killed on Thursday after rebels stormed his hometown of Sirte, where the last remnants of troops loyal to him were hiding. He was 69 years old.

Libya Ruler Moammar Gadhafi Has Been Killed Or Captured [VIDEO]

Reports are spreading all across news websites that the former ruler of Libya, Moammar Gadhafi, has been killed or possibly captured.  Al-Jazeera TV showed footage of what appeared to be the body of Gadhafi. The reports are still vastly different from one another. Some say Gadhafi was killed by a NATO airstrike and others say he was killed by revolutionary fighters.

US officials said Friday that Anwar al-Awlaki, an American-born radical cleric linked to al-Qaida, has been killed by an airstrike in Yemen.

Al-Awlaki, 40, was seen as especially dangerous because his internet savvy and English-fluency made it easier for him to draw recruits to attack the United States. His sermons urging such attacks were widely circulated among militants in the West.

Saudi Arabian Women Granted the Right to Vote

King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz al-Saud of Saudi Arabia announced Sunday that women will now be permitted to vote and run for elected office. In addition, they will participate in the next session of the unelected, advisory Shura Council.

To American women, who’ve had the right to vote for nearly a century, the king’s proclamation may seem overdue and even quaint. In a country, however, where women still cannot drive cars and must have a male relative’s permission to travel abroad, hold a job or even undergo certain medical procedures, the announcement is momentous.
