If you've driven through the Gallatin Canyon towards West Yellowstone lately, you've probably witnessed a frightening sight.

Hot and dry weather caused the Bacon Rind Fire to increase its behavior over the weekend. With this fire behavior, more smoke can be seen in various spots. Travelers along highway 191 should use caution due to the chances of smoke settling along the roadway.

The fire has now burned an estimated 1,400 acres.

The fire began in the Lee Metcalf Wilderness area and has moved into the west end of Yellowstone National Park. Crews have been allowing the fire to burn without suppression efforts. With the fire moving rapidly towards highway 191, crews have been given permission to battle the blaze before it makes it to the highway.
