Montana Attorney General Tim Fox, the state's chief law enforcement officer, cited recent Supreme Court decisions that provided a foundation for President Trump's executive orders to dismantle the EPA's Clean Power program.

"I support the President's executive order requiring a review of Obama-era energy regulations," Fox began. "The federal courts have stopped implementation of these regulations, finding that those suing the federal government are likely to prevail, because the rules are illegal and exceed the authority granted to the President by Congress."

Fox acknowledges that environmental laws and regulations are vital.

"While the policy issues surrounding America's energy strategy and environmental protection are important, and should be debated in Congress and in state legislatures, my job is to defend the rule of law and the Constitution," he said. "For those reasons, I also support President Trump's decision to revisit America's energy policies going forward, through legal means and through proper collaboration with the states."

Fox often criticized the EPA and other federal agencies for their bullying tactics towards states and private landowners, and represented Montana in several federal lawsuits.
