A Vancouver, Washington man, Matthew Colbert, 39, is in the Granite County jail charged with two counts attempted deliberated homicide, after a drive-by shooting incident that occurred on Friday morning, July 26.

Granite County Attorney Chris Miller said Tuesday afternoon that Colbert will be arraigned later this week.

“We have Matthew E. Colbert, who gave an address of Vancouver, Washington in custody,” Miller said. “He will be arraigned in Granite County District Court on Thursday, August 1st. I’m going to charge him with two counts of attempted deliberate homicide in connection with a shooting incident that took place on the Interstate in Granite County early Friday morning.”

“The victims reported that the driver pulled up beside them and fired a shot that blew out the driver side and passenger windows, obviously in a very sincere attempt to harm them,” Miller said. “The victims called 9-1-1 and Montana Highway Patrol trooper Tom Gill found the white pickup and pulled Mr. Colbert over, and he was taken into custody without anyone being hurt. We recovered two weapons from Mr. Colbert’s vehicle, and we’ll be doing ballistics tests to determine if they were fired or not.”

Miller said that Colbert is in the Granite County Jail in Phillipsburg on $100,000 bond. He will appear before District Judge Dayton, who may set another bond order if he wants. Attempted deliberate homicide carries a penalty of life or up to 100 years in prison.
