32 year old David Moorse, the Missoula man who fled from police and the U.S. Marshal’s Service early Wednesday morning and led authorities on a chase that lasted almost 12 hours, appeared in Missoula District Court on Thursday.

Deputy Missoula County Attorney Mac Bloom was the prosecuting attorney in the case.

“He did appear in District Court this morning in front of Judge Larson,” said Bloom. “The State requested $500,000 bail and the court did set bail at $500,000, so he’s being held on that amount.”

Bloom said the specific charges are still being prepared and will be released as soon as possible, however, he said Moorse was already under investigation for a prior felony.

“I can’t go into his criminal history right now because that’s confidential criminal justice information, however, I can say that right now I’m handling an open robbery case against him, and he was picked up on that warrant.”

Moorse's appearance in Missoula Justice Court has been postponed until all the charges can be filed.

The pursuit began when Moorse was confronted at a local motel by U.S. Marshals and the Missoula Police department. He fled in a vehicle which crashed on Dixon Street. Moorse then fled on foot and was able to evade officers for most of the day.

A homeowner in the 2300 block of Harve found Moorse hiding in his house and chased him outside. The resident called 9-1-1 and Missoula Police continued the pursuit to a motel complex on Old Fort Road where Moorse attempted to hide yet again.

Police sent in their K-9 unit and Moorse was found hiding under a bridge by a water feature in the complex.

Moorse was apprehended by police and the U.S. Marshal’s Service without incident.

No one was injured in the crash or the pursuit. Moorse was not found with a weapon.
