On Thursday, Sheriff TJ McDermott and his detective division offered a $10,000 reward for anyone who provides information that will bring the killer of Susan Wood to justice.

Detective Captain David Conway laid out the now familiar facts surrounding Woods’ death.

“On Saturday, March 3rd, Susan Wood was brutally murdered,” began Conway. “Susan’s friends and family mourn her loss, and the Missoula County Sheriff’s Office is dedicated to seeking justice for Susan. She was found on Coal Mine Road at 8:33 p.m. on March 3rd by a jogger who was in the area. Susan had sustained a severe head injury, and the injury led to her death approximately two weeks later. Our detectives are now investigating this as a homicide.

Conway said Ms. Wood had a regular routine in her travels around the North Reserve area.

“Susan’s routine was to ride the bus from her home on Stephens Avenue to the North Reserve area,” he continued. “Then, she would walk the remaining way to work at the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation where she was a custodian. The investigation this far has concluded that Susan was last seen walking northbound on the east side of Reserve Street on the Broadway overpass. She was seen crossing Broadway at about 7:10 p.m. and surveillance video shows that she did not make much farther than the area of Reserve Street and Stockyard Road intersection which is located on the north end of the overpass.”

Conway said at that point Ms. Wood had ‘an unfortunate encounter that resulted in her death’ sometime between 7:10 p.m. and 8:33 p.m. when she was found lying unconscious on Coal Mine Road.

Crimestoppers is also offering a reward for information about Susan Woods’ killer of $1,000.

Please look closely at the photos attached to this story. Ms. Wood always wore that distinctive pink coat. Anyone who may have seen her get into a vehicle in that area is asked to contact the Missoula County Sheriff’s Office tip line at 258-3337, or Crimestoppers at 721-4444.
